On April 14, 2025, Vespucci Truck Village officially opened as a new Italian rest area certified according to European standards and dedicated to heavy transport.

An important investment for the territory and sustainable logistics of Tuscany
Guasticce (LI), 14 April 2025 – The Vespucci Truck Village was inaugurated today in the heart of the Amerigo Vespucci Tuscan Interporto, a new safe and equipped parking area for heavy vehicles that strengthens the role of the A.Vespucci Interporto as a fundamental infrastructure serving Tuscan and national logistics.

The Truck Village was created with a dual vocation: to concretely improve the working conditions of drivers, allowing safe and quality parking, and to contribute to the territorial, sustainable and intermodal development of the Livorno area.

The project is part of the broader European PASS4CORE-ITA program, co-financed by the CEF-Transport of the European Commission, aimed at building a network of safe and protected parking areas (SSTPA) along the main corridors of the TEN-T network. The Vespucci Truck Village thus represents an important piece in the connection between Tuscan logistics infrastructures and continental flows of goods.

Inside the Livorno Interporto – in a strategic position between the port, airport, motorways and railway – the Truck Village offers:

  • 24-hour active surveillance and controlled access
  • Gender-specific toilets and showers
  • 24-hour coffee-snack area, free Wi-Fi, laundry
  • Spaces dedicated to the well-being of drivers and sustainable mobility

Monica Bellandi, President of Interporto Toscano A.Vespucci comments on an important day in the history of Interporto.

“We are happy to be able to inaugurate an infrastructure that we believe is important for the territory and for Tuscan logistics. Located within the Tuscan Interporto, in a strategic position for the logistics flows of Central Italy and the port of Livorno, the Vespucci Truck Village is not just a rest area, but a new model of infrastructure: a point of reference for safety and attention to the well-being of those who guarantee the mobility of goods every day”

“This intervention enhances our territory, supporting the quality of work and the role of Tuscany in the development of sustainable and integrated logistics. The creation of the Truck Village represents a concrete signal for the community of hauliers and for the local economy. Thinking of rest areas as comfortable and quality areas means contributing to making the work of hauliers more sustainable and safe and the transport of goods more efficient. The project strengthens the role of the Interporto in the national and international panorama, contributing to the construction of the European network of SSTPA rest areas and responding to the challenges of the sector: driver shortage, work-related stress, load safety and energy transition” declared Raffaello Cioni, CEO of Interporto Toscano.

The Vespucci Truck Village aims to be a point of reference for national and international traffic, serving the port of Livorno and the logistics system of central Italy, contributing to the sustainable transition and road safety.

An event that looks ahead
Representatives of local, national and European institutions, together with trade associations and logistics operators, participated in the inauguration ceremony to reflect on the future of freight transport, the quality of parking and European policies for infrastructural cohesion.
