SSTPA study highlights a persistent and growing challenge across Europe:

– An unbalanced distribution of certified parking areas

– A shortage of secure facilities in high-density freight corridors

This gap not only affects driver wellbeing and working conditions, but also raises critical security concerns—from cargo theft to unauthorized access.

ESPORG remains fully committed to working with EU institutions, Member States and industry partners to scale up SSTPA development and improve driver safety and logistics efficiency.

 Call for Coordinated Action

These high-level interventions underline the need for urgent, coordinated action at EU level to address the infrastructure and social dimensions of road transport.

ESPORG advocates for a comprehensive approach that includes:
✔️ rapid deployment of certified SSTPAs
✔️ a harmonised EU-wide digital information platform
✔️ stronger integration of driver wellbeing into transport policy

Together, these actions can lead to a safer, healthier, and more attractive environment for Europe’s professional drivers.
