Brussels, 27 January 2026 : The European Secure Parking Organisation (ESPORG) is honoured to welcome the Fédération Nationale des Transports Routiers (FNTR) of France as an official partner, marking a significant step forward in strengthening European cooperation on safe and secure truck parking infrastructure.

This strategic partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving drivers’ wellbeing and the attractiveness of the profession, by advancing the development of  Safe and Secure Parking Areas (SSPAs) in France and across Europe. Well-designed, certified parking areas — offering security, accessibility, hygiene, services and proper rest facilities are essential to drivers’ quality of life, road safety and efficient transport operations.

“Joining forces with Fédération Nationale des Transports Routiers (FNTR) is a key step towards safer parking, better working conditions for drivers and a more resilient transport sector. FNTR is a respected voice of road hauliers on important topics for the transport industry and we look forward to cooperate and develop common solutions, where ESPORG can be a facilitator, advancing secure parking areas as service hubs for our partners” said Dirk Penasse, General Manager, ESPORG.

EC Report on secure parkings highlights a critical European challenge

A recent European Commission report, informed by a comprehensive study carried out by ESPORG, confirms the urgent need to expand the European SSPA network, in line with TEN-T corridor requirements and EU mobility objectives.

The report highlights the serious challenges faced by transport operators and professional drivers related to the shortage of secure parkings directly affecting the security, safety and wellbeing of drivers, aggravating drivers shortage and the efficiency of logistics chains. Among the least-served countries are France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.

Strategic partnership parkings – road transport

ESPORG strategic partnership with the FNTR, brings together parkings and road transport sector, aiming to advance actions and practical, high impact solutions for drivers and transport operators, in line with EU legislation and transport objectives.

“Working with ESPORG is essential to meeting the requirements of the Mobility Package, improving drivers’ wellbeing and strengthening road safety” said Benjamin Joigneaux, Chair of the FNTR Europe and International Committee.

Secure truck parking areas are services hubs for road transport operators, not only safeguarding the cargo but also prioritizing the well-being of drivers, supporting energy transition (truck EV charging), enabling dual-use potential for military mobility and enhancing connectivity & access to real-time data on parking availability.

ESPORG warmly thanks FNTR for the trust and looks forward for an increased cooperation with the road transport sector serving drivers, companies and Europe’s mobility goals.
