Debrecen, Hungary – 25 March 2026
Today, the official groundbreaking ceremony took place for the new Debrecen Logistics and Truck Terminal (Debreceni Logisztikai és Kamionterminál), developed by Debreceni Ingatlanfejlesztő Kft. (owned by the Municipality of Debrecen). This flagship project, co-funded by Hungarian state resources and the European Union, is now officially under construction and represents a significant boost to safe and secure parking capacity in Eastern Europe.
The terminal is strategically located in the North-Western Economic Zone on a nearly 9-hectare site, directly adjacent to the M35 motorway. It is designed to serve the rapidly expanding industrial and logistics hub of Debrecen — including the major BMW plant and its extensive supplier network — while dramatically reducing heavy truck traffic through the city centre.
Project Highlights
•Total capacity: 260 high-standard parking spaces
•Certified under the EU Parking Standard:
◦194 spaces at Silver level
◦64 spaces at Gold level (the highest security tier, with advanced perimeter protection, access control, surveillance, and 24/7 assistance)
The facility will include dedicated sanitary buildings, rest areas, and dining services, providing professional drivers with modern, comfortable conditions — directly supporting the “Home Away From Home” philosophy promoted by ESPORG.
Construction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. The project also features extensive infrastructure works, including over 44,000 m² of basalt concrete and 6,000 m² of asphalt paving, as well as advanced stormwater management systems.
Strategic Importance for the Region
The terminal will improve logistics efficiency, enhance road safety, reduce illegal roadside parking, and contribute to a cleaner, quieter, and more liveable Debrecen. It forms part of a broader ecosystem that includes a nearby intermodal railway terminal and customs office, strengthening Debrecen’s role as a key logistics node on the TEN-T network.
This development perfectly aligns with ESPORG’s mission to transform truck parking areas into modern Smart Service Hubs that prioritise both cargo security and driver wellbeing.
Official Statements
Kun Ferenc, Managing Director of Debreceni Ingatlanfejlesztő Kft.:
“The truck parking lot will significantly improve the efficiency of logistics and supplier processes, while making the factories’ operations more predictable and stable. Well-organized waiting and service conditions promote uninterrupted goods traffic, supporting continuous production, precise scheduling of transports, and compliance with international logistics requirements.”
Barcsa Lajos, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen:
“When the decision was made about the location of the BMW factory, the city leadership already decided to create a complete ecosystem that will impact the entire city. Fewer trucks in the city, less congestion, less noise. Safer roads for families and a cleaner, more liveable environment.”
Papp László, Mayor of Debrecen, emphasised the long-term benefits for combined road-rail transport and the reduction of city-centre traffic.
ESPORG warmly congratulates the Municipality of Debrecen, Debreceni Ingatlanfejlesztő Kft., and all project partners on today’s successful groundbreaking. We are proud to have this important facility listed on the ESPORG Secure Truck Parking Map and look forward to its completion as a new benchmark for secure, certified parking in the region.
