The 2026 CEF Transport calls for proposals make €1.1 billion available to build and modernise European transport infrastructure.

The scope of the calls is to support the European Commission’s vision of a future sustainable transport system, with smart and resilient solutions implemented to interconnect Europe. Projects funded under these calls will help make the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) more sustainable, smart, and resilient, contributing to the EU’s goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050.

While the calls cover a wide range of areas—such as railway and inland waterway projects, electrification, and digitalisation—it is important to note that the construction or upgrade of Safe and Secure Parking Areas (SSPAs) is not directly covered under these calls for proposals.

However, there are still opportunities for SSPAs to benefit from specific investments.

How SSPAs Can Benefit from the 2026 CEF Transport Calls

  1. Safe and Secure Mobility Call (CEF-T-2026-SAFEMOBGEN)

Under the Safe and Secure Mobility Call, funding is available for works and studies that improve transport infrastructure at EU external borders. This includes:

  • Upgrading parking spaces for trucks, waiting areas, and road lane capacity from parking spaces to border control points, provided it facilitates traffic flows at the Union’s external borders;
  • Improving rail and road connections to border crossing points, including interoperability enhancements.
  1. Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Call (CEF-T-2026-AFIFGEN)

The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Call supports the deployment of alternative fuels supply infrastructure, including charging pools for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). For SSPAs, this means:

  • Publicly accessible recharging pools dedicated to HDVs, equipped with at least 4 Megawatt Charging System (MCS) points (each with a minimum power output of 1MW) or a combination of MCS and CCS points;
  • Eligible locations include SSPAs under Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1012, provided they are located on the TEN-T road network or within 3 km of a TEN-T road exit.

Please, be aware that the recharging points will be eligible, while surfacing, lighting, civil works, safety and security components, canopies and other service buildings will not be eligible for funding under this call.

 The 2026 CEF Transport calls offer targeted funding to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in transport infrastructure.
