Health check-ups, smoothie bikes and a warm welcome from Andamur’s founders marked the Wellbeing Days of EWellIn, powered by ESPORG, on 24 and 25 October 2026

La Junquera (Girona) / Brussels, 26 October 2026. Over two days, on 24 and 25 October 2026, professional drivers stopping at Andamur La Junquera, the secure truck parking on the AP-7 just before the French border, took time for their own health. The European Wellbeing Initiative (EWellIn), powered by ESPORG, and Andamur welcomed them to a wellbeing tent with free basic health check-ups, personal conversations about prevention and smoothie bikes. Drivers cycled 2,000 kilometres, and Andamur donated 1 kg of food for every kilometre: 2,000 kg of food, two tonnes, for the Banc dels Aliments de Girona, the Girona Food Bank.

Health check-ups and honest conversations

In the tent, drivers could take a basic health check-up during their stop. Based on EWellIn’s Driver Health Assessment, it looks at weight, height and BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, blood glucose and oxygen saturation, together with habits such as sleep, nutrition and physical activity. The team then talked with drivers individually and in small groups about what their results mean, how to prevent problems and how to look after body and mind on the road. EWellIn also listened carefully: what helps drivers feel well during a stop, and how parking facilities can support them.

Pedal power for the Girona Food Bank

Next to the check-up area, smoothie bikes invited drivers to a friendly competition: pedal, power the blender and enjoy a fresh smoothie made with their own energy. The bikes were part of Your Kilometres Count (Tus Kilómetros Suman), an initiative of Andamur’s campaign Take Care of Your Health on the Road. For every kilometre cycled, Andamur donated 1 kg of food, so the 2,000 kilometres became 2,000 kg of food for the Banc dels Aliments de Girona.

A family welcome

Andamur’s founders, María Dolores Sánchez and Fulgencio López, parents of today’s owners, were present at La Junquera. They shared their stories and engaged with the EWellIn team and with drivers. María Dolores Sánchez supported the EWellIn team throughout with her warm and welcoming attitude, while Fulgencio López took the health check-up himself, inspiring drivers by example and supporting the team spirit.

“Since 1987, our family has lived by what we call atención al cliente, truly caring for every driver who stops with us,” said Fulgencio López, co-founder of Andamur. “At La Junquera I took the health check-up myself, because caring starts with example. We have to show the next generations, in our family and on the road, that looking after drivers also means helping them look after their own health.”

A parking built around drivers

Andamur La Junquera opened in 1996 as the first service station for lorries at this strategic crossing. Its secure parking offers 105 truck spaces certified Gold under the European SSTPA standard, and its free gym, opened in 2018, was the first in the Andamur network.

“Parking is where a driver’s day pauses, and where care can begin,” said Druselia Betea, Head of EWellIn. “At La Junquera drivers took time for themselves, on the bikes and at the health check-up, and told us honestly what would make their stops better. We take every one of those conversations to our Wellbeing Working Groups, so that listening turns into action.”

Part of a four-year campaign

The Wellbeing Days belong to the Wellbeing Campaign “Drive Safe, Park Safe, Work Safe, Live Well”, launched by EWellIn in March 2025 at the ESPORG Annual Conference with the support of the European Commission and the sector. Each of its four years speaks to a different part of the supply chain, and Year 2 in 2026 is dedicated to parking, which keeps Europe’s supply chains moving. EWellIn holds its events in parking areas and turns them into collaborative platforms, where operators, drivers’ representatives, haulage companies, authorities and policymakers work together, while drivers take part in health check-ups and conversations. What drivers share flows into the Wellbeing Working Groups, which develop programmes that enhance drivers’ wellbeing. The next Wellbeing Days take place at Security Park (Trucks’nB) in France on 28 October 2026. More information: wellbeingcampaign.eu.
