Europe’s transport industry is facing a growing challenge: a critical shortage of safe and secure truck parking spaces. Across the continent, drivers spend valuable hours searching for available parking, increasing stress, fatigue, and safety risks on already congested roads.
For Guido Decker, CEO and Founder of TelarTec, solving this issue is not just about infrastructure — it’s about improving driver wellbeing and transforming the future of logistics. TelarTec CEO sat with InTransit at the recent ESPORG conference to discuss how laser-based detection systems are helping transform existing parking areas and improve life for truck drivers across Europe.

Using Smart Technology to Double Parking Capacity
At the heart of Telartec innovation is a sophisticated laser-based detection system designed to maximise the use of existing parking infrastructure.
Europe faces a massive shortfall in truck parking spaces — approximately 50,000 in Germany alone. Drivers often spend an average of one hour searching for a safe place to stop, leading to increased stress, higher speeds toward the end of driving shifts, and elevated accident risk.
The company’s technology combines advanced laser detectors with intelligent software systems capable of monitoring large outdoor spaces with remarkable efficiency. By enabling trucks to park in rows behind one another rather than using traditional layouts, Telartec can significantly increase parking capacity without the need for major construction projects.
“We use very few lasers to detect very large-scale outdoor areas,” Guido Decker explained. “Together, the hardware and software create a system where trucks can park much more efficiently.”
TelarTec’s combination of hardware and intelligent software enables more efficient parking layouts, allowing trucks to park in tighter, organized rows rather than the traditional scattered configuration. The result? Capacity increases of up to 100% on existing lots, with some sites seeing gains as high as 150-170%, depending on the original layout.
In an industry where land availability, planning approvals, and construction costs often delay new parking developments, the ability to optimise existing facilities offers an attractive and cost-effective alternative.
TelarTec Solutions for Drivers’ Wellbeing
Guido Decker founded TelarTec five years ago and serves as its CEO. He first connected with ESPORG at the transport fair in Munich last year and immediately saw the synergy.
“ESPORG goals and ours align very closely — improving security, safety, and conditions for drivers,” he noted. Through the partnership, TelarTec aims to bring these smart parking solutions to the broader EU platform.
TelarTec has signed ESPORG’s Wellbeing Pledge, reflecting a clear focus on the human side of the solution.
“Drivers are under enormous stress,” Decker emphasized. “By creating more parking spaces, we reduce the risk, reduce the stress, and improve their working conditions.”
The technology doesn’t just add spaces — it reduces the daily pressure that leads to fatigue and dangerous driving behavior, especially in the final hours of a shift.
