On 30 April 2026, ESPORG successfully hosted its public webinar “Funding and Financing Opportunities for Safe and Secure Parking Areas”, bringing together more than 100 participants from across the European Union and abroad. The online event highlighted the growing importance of financially sustainable investments in Safe and Secure Parking Areas (SSPAs) and reinforced ESPORG’s role as the leading European organisation supporting secure truck parking development.
Moderated by Frédéric Maas, Manager of EU Parking Academy, the webinar featured keynote speech from Dirk Penasse (General Manager of ESPORG) and expert contributions by Stuart Madden and Florin Vadut (Board Members of ESPORG) and Mirjam Frakulla – Senior funding advisor, ESPORG. Together, the speakers shared practical insights into how operators and investors can successfully design, finance and operate profitable parking infrastructure projects.
“Safe and secure parking is no longer just about parking spaces — it has become a service hub for drivers, logistics operators and supply chains. Every location requires a tailored business approach, combining security, connectivity, energy transition and quality services. With more than 390,000 additional parking spaces needed across Europe, we want to help operators build financially sustainable projects that truly respond to the real needs of the industry.” said Dirk Penasse, General Manager of ESPORG
The webinar focused on the full financial lifecycle of parking infrastructure projects — from project design and securing financing to construction cashflow management and long-term operational profitability. Speakers stressed that successful SSPA investments require a strong business model, realistic cashflow planning and a service-oriented approach focused on driver wellbeing and operational quality.
Participants also received an exclusive preview of the upcoming ESPORG Toolkit for Successful Financial Project Management, a new online training and guidance package that will become available to ESPORG members from June 2026 onwards. The toolkit will provide practical support on funding sources, risk management, KPIs, revenue streams and financing strategies for SSPAs.
The event further demonstrated the increasing international interest in secure parking infrastructure and the need for collaboration between public authorities, investors and operators. By combining policy expertise, operational know-how and practical financial guidance, ESPORG continues to support the development of safer, smarter and more sustainable parking networks across Europe.
